The Sphere in the Clouds

A 47-second infrared clip titled "Spherical UAP over AFG in and out of clouds 23 Nov 2020" turned up on a classified network in 2024, already zoomed, sharpened and slowed by whoever edited it. AARO describes only an area of contrast crossing the frame and fading into the background. This is the record of what the clip shows, not a verdict on what was in the cloud.

◆ THE SHORT VERSION

  • The Sphere in the Clouds is a reported UAP case in Over Afghanistan per the uploader's title ('AFG'); AARO: CENTCOM area, Afghanistan, 23 November 2020.
  • An infrared clip titled "Spherical UAP over AFG in and out of clouds 23 Nov 2020" shows, in AARO's description, an area of contrast crossing the frame and fading into the background.
  • The clip was zoomed, sharpened, motion-tracked and slowed before it was uploaded, with title cards saying so, and AARO presents it as received.
  • It surfaced on a classified network in June 2024, and AARO warns that many such materials lack a substantiated chain of custody.
  • AARO confirms neither the country nor the spherical shape; those come from the uploader's title alone.
  • For this case Fractured Realities holds 1 distinct source and 1 corroborating primary document.
  • The archive grades it L0 · SINGLE ACCOUNT — the archive holds one account of it, from a single source.

Counts are resolved totals of what sources say, computed 2026-10-03; the reported details above are claims in the record, not findings. A record of reports, not a verdict on what happened.

The clip comes with its own title cards. It opens on a black screen reading "zoomed in". For seven seconds an area of contrast crosses from the top left of the frame to the right "before losing distinctiveness against the background", in AARO's words. A second card reads "sharpened, zoomed motion tracked contrast enhanced slow to 60% speed", and the pass plays again slower and closer. Then a card reads "original video". In that last segment the area of contrast appears near the top centre, moves down and to the left, turns right and fades. The poster frame on DVIDS shows grey-white broken cloud with a dark round spot at the top edge.

What is on the record

The archive holds one item, DOW-UAP-PR055, from the Department of War's second PURSUE release on 22 May 2026. AARO found it on a classified network while answering a request from eight members of the House of Representatives in March 2026. It warns that many of those materials "lack a substantiated chain-of-custody". A user uploaded this clip in June 2024, and AARO says it "was digitally altered prior to its upload" and is "presented as received".

AARO assesses the clip as likely from an infrared sensor on a US military platform in the Central Command area in November 2020. The words "spherical", "AFG" and the date are the uploader's. AARO confirms neither the country nor the shape, and describes only an area of contrast. The page is pinned loosely to Afghanistan on the strength of the title alone. There is no crew report and no explanation.

Why it sits where it does

The clip grades L0: a single record, and it names nobody who saw anything, so there is no identified witness. The tier measures sourcing rather than truth. What crossed the cloud is not resolved here.
