The Baía do Sol Disc

Late in 1977 a Brazilian Air Force team on Ilha do Mosqueiro reported a black disc about thirty metres across hovering directly above them, pulsing a strong yellow light and making a sound they compared to an air conditioner and a bicycle ratchet. This is the record of what the officer reported, not a verdict on what was over the beach.

◆ THE SHORT VERSION

  • The Baía do Sol Disc is a reported UAP case in Baía do Sol, Ilha do Mosqueiro, Brazil, November 1977.
  • A team led by Uyrangê Hollanda reported a black disc around thirty metres across hovering directly above them at under a hundred and fifty metres, pulsing a strong yellow light about five times.
  • Its sound was described two ways: the hum of an air conditioner, and the ratchet of a bicycle.
  • Acquaintances from the national intelligence service are recorded as arriving afterwards, witnesses to the aftermath rather than to the object.
  • The vigil sits inside the Brazilian military's own 1977 operation in Pará, and no Air Force document on it is in our holdings.
  • For this case Fractured Realities holds 1 distinct source and 3 distinct claimants on its resolved list.
  • The archive grades it L3 · MULTI-SOURCE — multiple independent sources attest to it.

Counts are resolved totals of what sources say, computed 2026-10-03; the reported details above are claims in the record, not findings. A record of reports, not a verdict on what happened.

The place is Baía do Sol on Ilha do Mosqueiro, in the Brazilian state of Pará, in the closing weeks of 1977. The archive's telling dates it to November; the officer who led the team put it in early December when he described it twenty years later, and the archive records both rather than choosing. According to the account it holds, a team led by Uyrangê Hollanda was at a dark and isolated spot when a black disc, around thirty metres across, came to a hover directly above them at under a hundred and fifty metres. It showed a yellow light at its centre and pulsed a strong yellow light roughly five times. The sound was described in two comparisons: the hum of an air conditioner, and the ratchet of a bicycle.

What is on the record

Three claimants are resolved: Hollanda himself, agents of the Brazilian Air Force, and acquaintances from the national intelligence service who are recorded as having arrived afterwards. The distinction in that last group matters and the archive keeps it. People who arrived after the event are witnesses to the aftermath and to what the team said, not to the object.

The period and the personnel place this file inside the Brazilian military's own operation in the region that year, and the archive holds a separate case on that operation. This entry is not that case and does not inherit its documentation. What the archive holds here is one telling through one channel, with no Air Force document behind it, no photograph, and no instrument record.

The sensory detail is the strongest thing in the account. Two distinct sounds and a counted number of light pulses is the sort of specificity that comes from someone paying attention, though specificity is a quality of a description rather than proof of what was described.

Why it sits where it does

This case grades L3, the archive's tier for multiple independent claimants describing one connected event. Military witnesses carry it there, and the absence of any military paperwork in our holdings keeps it there. What hung over Baía do Sol is not resolved here.
