The Chulucanas Spheres

For weeks in October and November 2001 orange spheres of light are said to have performed silent displays over Chulucanas in Peru's Piura region, and one reportedly landed on a hillside. The Peruvian Air Force's UFO office investigated. What outside documentation exists comes from its investigator's own testimony. This is the record of what was reported, not a verdict on what was in the sky.

The sphere on the hillside said hello without making a sound. In the archive's telling the witnesses who reached it heard the greeting in their minds. It came during a run of nights in late 2001 when eight orange spheres of light hung over the town of Chulucanas. They moved through silent geometric displays for hours at a time. Our source names a cameraman, Ivan Izana Fardo, among the witnesses. Three videos of the lights were handed to the Peruvian Air Force.

What is on the record

The air force did look. Its OIFAA office investigated through Anthony Choy, and the inquiry has been described as Peru's first officially revealed UFO investigation. Choy's name does not appear in the archive's telling. It comes from the public record.

The archive's two claimants are the cameraman and an entry for "dozens of witnesses" that stands in for the whole crowd. The cameraman is named only in our source. The dates are also our source's, running from 13 October to 15 November 2001. Some descriptions put the town on the Ecuadorian border. It lies in the Piura region near that border and not on it.

Outside documentation is thin: an uncited encyclopedia mention and Choy's own testimony. Peruvian press coverage may exist but has not been checked. No explanation of the spheres has been published. The landing and the silent greeting rest on a single retelling.

Why it sits where it does

Its L3 grade looks stronger than the file is. That tier is meant for several independent claimants, and here it rests on one telling on one channel and a crowd entered as a single witness. The air force's involvement is the case's strongest fact. The archive holds neither the three videos nor any report from OIFAA, so that involvement is known only through the investigator's own account. What hung over Chulucanas is not resolved here.
