The Dnieper Boat

At twilight on 4 July 1989 two women walking by the Dnieper in Kyiv met three identical pale beings with long blond hair who said they came from another planet and invited them to see their ship. The beings let them go when the small girl with them began to cry. This is the record of what the women reported, not a verdict on who they met.

The beings walked the two women towards a craft behind the trees. According to the published account they only let them go when the small girl with them began to cry. Then they climbed a retracting ladder into the craft and left. It happened at twilight on 4 July 1989 in a park on the Dnieper in Kyiv. The women had found three identical beings with pale skin and long blond hair sitting in what looked like a boat. The beings said they came from another planet.

What is on the record

The published record names the women as Vera Prokofiyevna and Alexandra Stepanovna. The girl was Alexandra's six-year-old daughter. The case reached Western researchers through Jacques Vallée's book on Soviet ufology from 1992 and through a letter by V. D. Musinsky in the International UFO Reporter in 1990. Several sighting catalogues carry it from those two sources. There is no official investigation or explanation on record.

The archive's telling gives a larger story. In it the beings are tall and angelic and sit in an ancient wooden boat. They warn that humanity is damaging Earth and inviting harmful forces, show the women a holographic solar system inside a glowing sphere and predict disaster. The telling names the first woman as Vera Ignatenko and says Ignatenko later reported body heat, magnetism and high energy levels. The catalogue summaries contain neither the holographic solar system nor the Ignatenko follow-up, and they name the woman Vera Prokofiyevna.

Our telling supplies the two claimants, Vera Ignatenko and an unnamed younger woman. They are the same two women the published account names differently.

Why it sits where it does

The Dnieper case grades L3 because two witnesses describe one connected event. Both reach the archive through a single video, and their accounts arrive together rather than separately. The outside documentation is a book and a research letter, and neither carries the warning message or the follow-up. Who the women met on the riverbank is not resolved here.
