The Levelland Electromagnetic Wave

Beginning late on 2 November 1957, the Levelland, Texas sheriff's office received a series of calls from motorists on roads around the town. Independently, and over several hours, drivers reported a large glowing object, often described as egg-shaped, passing low over or near their vehicles, and their engines and lights cutting out as it did, then restoring once it left.

The vehicle-stalling reports

At least a half-dozen separate motorists reported the same electromagnetic effect that night, and Sheriff Weir Clem, investigating, also reported seeing a bright light. The pattern is a textbook "EM-effect" wave: an object at close range coinciding with electrical failure across unrelated vehicles, with the independence of the witnesses its strength. Air Force investigation attributed the reports to ball lightning or an electrical storm, though weather at Levelland that night was contested.

The RB-47, and why they sit together

This file also carries the RB-47 case of 17 July 1957, in which an Air Force reconnaissance aircraft over the southern U.S. reported being paced by an object that was tracked at once on the aircraft's electronic-intelligence gear, on ground radar, and visually by the crew — a rare multi-sensor military encounter. Even the sceptical Condon Report, which recommended against further UFO study, singled the RB-47 case out as genuinely unresolved.

The record holds two things the era rarely produced: a wave of independent electromagnetic-effect reports, and a multi-sensor military tracking. Neither has been conclusively explained. Reports, not reality.
