The Linda Cortile Brooklyn Bridge Abduction

In the early hours of 30 November 1989, Linda Cortile said she was floated out of a 12th-floor Manhattan window near the Brooklyn Bridge and taken into a hovering craft. Over the following year, people said they had watched it from the street below. This is the record of what was reported, not a verdict on what rose over the East River.

Linda Cortile placed the event at around three in the morning on 30 November 1989, in a 12th-floor apartment near the Brooklyn Bridge and the FDR Drive. She described a numbness rising up her body and a smell of almonds, then a hissing figure at the foot of the bed. She said she threw objects at it before her conscious memory failed, and later felt herself drop back onto the bed. The striking part of the case came afterwards, when other people reportedly said they had seen a woman floated in a foetal position, with three small figures, into a brightly lit disc hovering some twelve storeys up.

What is on the record

The archive resolves seven claimants across two reporting channels, and some entries are groups rather than single named people. Alongside her, the accounts name two police officers, a woman whose car stalled on the bridge, and the driver and bodyguard of a UN motorcade, together with fish-market workers and a journalist. One telling says nearly a hundred witnesses eventually came forward; that larger figure is the account's own claim, and the seven resolves are what the archive can trace. The reports also describe cars and lights failing on the bridge as the object hovered.

There are no government documents and no authenticated footage in this file. The case is testimony, and part of Cortile's own recall came through hypnotic regression, which the record should carry openly. The investigation attributed to Budd Hopkins is named in the accounts rather than documented here.

Why it sits where it does

The case grades L3, carried by several independent claimants describing one connected event rather than by paperwork or sensor data. Its weight is in the claim of ground witnesses to a private abduction, which is unusual. It does not climb higher because nothing in the file corroborates the testimony from outside it. What was seen over the bridge that night is not resolved here.
