The White-Gowned Walkers

On the evening of 7 October 1972 an innkeeper in a village about thirty kilometres from Ljubljana said she watched small figures in white gowns walk past shoulder to shoulder, and that they came back later with others and a "phony car". Local children had reported the same creatures days earlier. This is the record of one catalogue entry, not a verdict on what walked through the village.

The figures came back later that night, with others and what the report calls a "phony car". Earlier, at about half past nine on 7 October 1972, an innkeeper known only as Mrs H. had watched them walking past. They were about three feet tall and dressed in white gowns, and they moved shoulder to shoulder. The village lay some thirty kilometres from Ljubljana in what was then Yugoslavia.

She was not the first to see them. A few days before, during a local flap of sightings, children in the village said they had watched creatures with spotted faces rise out of a turnip field.

What is on the record

Two claimants are resolved: Mrs H. and the local children. The second of these is a group, so the count describes two reports rather than two people. The children are described here by role only and are not named anywhere in this file.

Everything known about the case comes from a single catalogue entry, which cites the APRO Bulletin. The archive reaches it through one telling on one channel. No witness is named in full. The village itself is not named, and no investigator's report survives in the sources checked. No official body looked into it and no explanation has been offered.

What the record gives is a pattern rather than a scene. A flap was under way, children reported something first, and an adult described something similar a few days later. The details that make the case memorable, the gowns and the spotted faces and the false car, rest on that one entry.

Why it sits where it does

This case grades L3 on the archive's count of two claimants. The count treats a group of children as one witness and the innkeeper as another, and both reach the archive through the same catalogue line. What walked through the village that October is not resolved here.
