Three Contacts over the North Arabian Sea

Shortly after midnight on 24 August 2020 a US Navy helicopter crew from HSM-73 watched an unknown air contact go behind a cloud over the North Arabian Sea. When they found it again two more had appeared to its east, and all three held course, speed and altitude with no radar, electronic or IFF return. This is the record of what the crew reported, not a verdict on what was in the sky.

◆ THE SHORT VERSION

  • Three Contacts over the North Arabian Sea is a reported UAP case in North Arabian Sea, 24 August 2020, 00:04:30Z.
  • An HSM-73 Navy helicopter crew reported one unknown air contact going behind a cloud over the North Arabian Sea; when they regained it, two more had appeared due east of it.
  • According to the form all three "appeared to maintain their relative course, speed, and altitude", heading roughly west.
  • The form records "Negative ES, radar track, and IFF track", with distance and speed unknown.
  • The pilot ticked both "round" and "wings/airframe" and called them "possible unidentified small air contacts"; no explanation is given.
  • For this case Fractured Realities holds 1 distinct source, 1 corroborating primary document and 1 claimant on its resolved list.
  • The archive grades it L4 · OFFICIAL RECORD — a released government record names who saw it, the top of our scale, though no independent testimony sits beside that record.

Counts are resolved totals of what sources say, computed 2026-10-03; the reported details above are claims in the record, not findings. A record of reports, not a verdict on what happened.

One became three. At 00:04:30Z on 24 August 2020 a Navy helicopter crew "conducting routine operations in the North Arabian Sea" picked up an unknown air contact and tracked it "before losing sight as it went behind a cloud". When they regained it "2x additional unknown air contacts were seen due east of the location of the initial contact." The form says all three "appeared to maintain their relative course, speed, and altitude", heading roughly west. It records "Negative ES, radar track, and IFF track". Distance and speed were unknown. The pilot ticked two boxes to describe them (round and wings/airframe) and called them "possible unidentified small air contacts".

What is on the record

The document is a Range Fouler Debrief Form, DOW-UAP-D56, filed by an O-3 pilot of HSM-73. AARO describes the form as the one the US Navy uses to record an unauthorised intrusion into controlled airspace during operations or training. HSM-73 is a Navy helicopter maritime strike squadron that flies the MH-60R Seahawk. A Navy photograph on DVIDS dated 11 August 2020 shows one of its helicopters on the deck of USS Nimitz in the Arabian Sea. The form gives the aircraft's side number 705 and its bureau number, and logs the mission as "SSC".

US Central Command declassified the form in March 2026. The Department of War published it in its first PURSUE release on 8 May 2026. The pilot's name and the longitude are withheld. The working-area and latitude boxes both hold the number 21440, which is not a usable position, so the page is pinned to the North Arabian Sea as a region. The form says no interaction took place. No video is paired with it, it offers no explanation and the release adds none.

Why it sits where it does

L4 · OFFICIAL RECORD — a released government record names who saw it. The observers are a Navy helicopter crew identified by squadron and aircraft number, with every name withheld. No independent testimony sits beside the form in the archive, and the tier measures sourcing rather than truth. What the crew watched heading west is not resolved here.
