The Alderney Sighting

In 2007, a commercial pilot flying near the Channel Islands, Ray Bowyer, reported two large bright objects off his aircraft in daylight, seen for several minutes and, he says, backed by passengers, a second pilot and radar. The report and the files around it are the case. This is the record of what was reported and tracked, not a verdict on what was off Alderney.

◆ THE SHORT VERSION

  • The Alderney Sighting is a reported UAP case in United Kingdom / Bailiwick jurisdiction, 2007.
  • The record describes a silent craft and an object hovering.
  • For this case Fractured Realities holds 1 distinct source, 1 corroborating primary document and 3 distinct claimants on its resolved list.
  • The archive grades it L4 · DOC-CORROBORATED — the testimony is corroborated by primary government documents, the top of our scale.

Counts are resolved totals of what sources say, computed 2026-10-03; the reported details above are claims in the record, not findings. A record of reports, not a verdict on what happened.

On a daytime flight from Southampton towards Alderney in 2007, Captain Ray Bowyer reported two enormous, brilliant yellow objects off his aircraft. They were cigar- or disc-shaped with dark bands across them. He watched them for around twelve minutes, part of it through binoculars. By his account the sighting did not stop with him.

What is on the record

The archive resolves three claimants. They are Bowyer himself, passengers aboard the aircraft, and a second pilot reported to have seen something over Sark. The single telling adds radar traces from both Guernsey and Jersey, lasting roughly fifty-five minutes. What raises the case above testimony is documentary. One government primary record from the Ministry of Defence UFO files, held at the UK National Archives, sits in the file as corroboration, among four document sources in all.

A note on place. The archive logs the location as airspace near Alderney and Guernsey. It logs the jurisdiction as unresolved between the United Kingdom and the Bailiwick. The Channel Islands are Crown Dependencies rather than part of the UK, and the file does not pin the point of sighting more tightly than that.

Why it sits where it does

The case grades L4, the archive's document-corroborated tier, carried by government paperwork rather than by retelling alone. Its evidence class is an official record. The account is unusually layered for a single channel: a pilot, his passengers, a second pilot and two radar heads. Yet the objects themselves went unidentified. What Bowyer and the others saw off the Channel Islands is not resolved here.
