The Weaver's Shuttle over Volx
Around 11pm on 8 August 2012 a stargazer lying on a terrace at Volx in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence watched a blurred brown-green shape like a weaver's shuttle, with a dark red disc at its centre, pass almost overhead in total silence and blot out the stars. GEIPAN ruled out anything carried by the wind and any powered craft, and concluded it resembled no known object. This is the record of what the witness reported, not a verdict on what crossed the sky.
◆ THE SHORT VERSION
- The Weaver's Shuttle over Volx is a reported UAP case in Volx, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, France, 8 August 2012.
- A stargazer on a terrace reported a blurred brown-green shape like a weaver's shuttle, with a dark red patch at its centre, passing almost overhead and blotting out the stars, with a kind of ripple in the sky around it.
- It made no sound: the witness pulled off an MP3 player to listen, and the dogs lying alongside never stirred.
- GEIPAN's investigator worked through the geometry: low enough to be an animal the colours fail, lower than 500 metres a powered craft would have been heard, and above about 460 metres it would have broken the sound barrier with no bang.
- GEIPAN concluded the object resembled no known object or phenomenon and classed it unexplained.
