The Voronezh Landing

In late September 1989 the Soviet news agency TASS reported that residents of Voronezh, including children, had seen a craft land in a city park and tall figures emerge. The report circulated worldwide. This is the record of what was said and reported, not a verdict on what came down in the park.

◆ THE SHORT VERSION

  • The Voronezh Landing is a reported UAP case in South Park, Voronezh, 27 September 1989.
  • The record describes a robotic or synthetic being, a tall figure, humanoid figures and physical traces on the ground.
  • For this case Fractured Realities holds 4 distinct sources and 4 distinct claimants on its resolved list.
  • The archive grades it L3 · MULTI-SOURCE — multiple independent sources attest to it.

Counts are resolved totals of what sources say, computed 2026-10-03; the reported details above are claims in the record, not findings. A record of reports, not a verdict on what happened.

On 27 September 1989, in a park in the South Park district of Voronezh, then in the Soviet Union, a group of children playing reported seeing a glowing sphere descend and a tall figure step out alongside what they described as a robot-like companion. The account drew wider notice when the state news agency TASS carried it, an unusual step for the Soviet press, and it was picked up by news outlets around the world.

What is on the record

The witnesses named in the record are mostly local children, with adults and police said to have observed as well. Investigators reported depressions in the ground at the site and elevated readings that were described in some accounts as radioactive. The TASS report is the anchor: a government news agency putting its name to a landing account is itself part of why the case is remembered.

Why it sits where it does

Voronezh grades L3 in this archive: several claimants describe one connected event. The three documents on file, one from the CIA's UFO collection and two from the UK Ministry of Defence archive, are classed as reporting rather than as primary records, so they do not lift it to L4. That is what the ladder records: how the account is sourced, not proof of the events. The strangeness of the descriptions is not evidence for or against them. What the record holds is that multiple witnesses, several of them children, reported a landing at a fixed urban location, that authorities and a state news agency engaged with it, and that ground marks were noted. What actually came down is not resolved here.
