The Shape-Changer

Undated · Indo-Pacific (INDOPACOM)

◈ PUBLIC DOMAIN · FREE TO DISPLAY

WHAT IT IS

An irregular bright form over the sea, sped up eight times by its uploader to show 'possible changes of shape', then five minutes in real time.

THE CASE FOR

The uploader's own caption: '8x speed, possible changes of shape, stabilized and enhanced'.

THE CASE AGAINST

Stabilised, sharpened, contrast-enhanced and sped up before AARO received it; apparent shape changes in enhanced infrared can come from the processing and from the sensor's mode changes. It comes from a set AARO found on a classified network and says lacks a substantiated chain of custody.

WHERE IT STANDS

Disputed. Serious questions remain about how it was made or what it shows, and neither side has settled them.
