WHAT IT IS

V-formations of lights photographed by a student and witnessed by university faculty. The Air Force's bird-reflection theory never fully settled it.

THE CASE FOR

The lights were independently observed by Texas Tech professors, and the Air Force never demonstrated Hart's photographs to be fakes despite examining them.

THE CASE AGAINST

The favoured explanation — birds reflecting the town's new streetlights — fitted several visual sightings, and Project Blue Book's lead investigator later said the case was solved by a mundane phenomenon he declined to name.

WHERE IT STANDS

Unexplained. No identification has been established. The record leaves it open.
