DISPUTEDCRAFT
The Trindade Island Photos
1958 · Trindade Island · Brazil

WHAT IT IS
A Saturn-shaped object shot from a Brazilian Navy vessel. Baraúna was a skilled trick photographer, which is the crux of the enduring hoax argument.
THE CASE FOR
Reportedly witnessed by sailors on the deck of the Almirante Saldanha, and the Brazilian Navy's own examination of the negatives found no evidence of fakery.
THE CASE AGAINST
Baraúna was a skilled trick photographer who had faked saucer photos for a magazine before, and a later second-hand confession claim alleges a double exposure — the crux has never moved.
WHERE IT STANDS
Disputed. Serious questions remain about how it was made or what it shows, and neither side has settled them.
