The Alton Barnes Helicopter Encounter

Near the crop formations at Alton Barnes in Wiltshire, researchers filming a design in the field described being buzzed at low level by army Gazelle helicopters, with a ball of light captured on film near one aircraft. The witnesses reach the archive only as unnamed groups, and the dating is loose. This is the record of what was reported, not a verdict on what was in the field.

◆ THE SHORT VERSION

  • The Alton Barnes Helicopter Encounter is a reported UAP case in England, circa late 1990s.
  • The record describes a crop circle.
  • For this case Fractured Realities holds 2 distinct sources and 5 distinct claimants on its resolved list.
  • The archive grades it L3 · MULTI-SOURCE — multiple independent sources attest to it.
  • The nearest nuclear-weapons site is 48.7 km away, which the archive records without inferring a link.

Counts are resolved totals of what sources say, computed 2026-10-03; the reported details above are claims in the record, not findings. A record of reports, not a verdict on what happened.

Filming a crop formation at Alton Barnes in the Wiltshire downs, a party of researchers reported being buzzed dangerously close by two army Gazelle helicopters. One telling likens the formation to a symbol resembling the CBS eye. In the same footage a ball of light was filmed near one of the helicopters, repeatedly vanishing and reappearing behind it as the aircraft passed.

What is on the record

The archive holds two retellings of this event and resolves five claimants. Both retellings come from a single channel. None of the five is named. They reach the file only as group descriptors: French researchers, scientists, an unnamed researcher. The count of five therefore stands for anonymous parties rather than identified witnesses. The dating is loose as well, placed somewhere across the 1990s.

The account describes film of the helicopters and the ball of light, but the archive holds no authenticated footage of its own and no documents. The near-miss with the Gazelles and the behaviour of the light are elements of the retelling, and nothing in the file settles either.

Why it sits where it does

Five claimants attached to one connected event hold the case at L3, and there it stops. The witnesses are anonymous, the channel single and the dating vague, and no records or verified film support any of it. What moved near the helicopters over that field is not resolved here.
