The Bents Basin Encounter

On 4 June 1972 six teenagers camping at Bents Basin in New South Wales reported a car that would not start, a red glowing disc on a nearby hill, simultaneous headaches and an engine that caught fire. Two of them then described a tall gliding figure. This is the record of what was reported, not a verdict on what was on that hill.

◆ THE SHORT VERSION

  • The Bents Basin Encounter is a reported UAP case in Bents Basin campground, Australia, 4 June 1972.
  • The record describes a tall figure, engine failure and electromagnetic effects.
  • For this case Fractured Realities holds 1 distinct source and 3 distinct claimants on its resolved list.
  • The archive grades it L3 · MULTI-SOURCE — multiple independent sources attest to it.

Counts are resolved totals of what sources say, computed 2026-10-03; the reported details above are claims in the record, not findings. A record of reports, not a verdict on what happened.

Bents Basin is a river campground west of Sydney. Six teenagers were there on 4 June 1972 when, by the account, their car would not start. On a hill nearby they saw a red glowing disc. All six are described as developing headaches at the same time, and the car's engine then caught fire.

What is on the record

One telling on one channel, three named claimants recorded as Mr. S., Terry and Wayne from a group of six, and no documents. The grade is testimony.

The physical elements are the part worth weighing. Vehicle failure and simultaneous physiological effects across a group are the strongest category of claim in a case like this, because they are the kind of thing that leaves evidence. An engine fire in particular should have produced a repair, an insurance record or a wreck. None of that is in the archive.

Our co-occurrence analysis finds electromagnetic effects and engine failure travelling together across the corpus at nearly seven times chance, which places this account inside a real reporting pattern. That is a statement about how such events are described, not about what causes them.

The later elements are of a different character and are recorded as such: two of the group described a gliding figure some eight to ten feet tall that vanished, and eyes seen afterwards in the trees. Those come from two of the six rather than all of them.

Why it sits where it does

L3 on three named claimants to one connected event, from a single channel. What was on the hill above the campground is not resolved here.
