The Carman Sightings

On 13 May 1975 a cameraman near Carman, Manitoba filmed two objects in front of four other witnesses. One held still and then left at speed after a flash; the other moved low across the horizon. This is the record of what was filmed and witnessed, not a verdict on what was over the prairie.

Carman sits in flat farmland southwest of Winnipeg, which is the kind of horizon where an object low in the sky can be watched for a long time. Alan Carr, a cameraman, is recorded as filming two separate objects on 13 May 1975. The first was stationary. It then produced a flash and departed northwards at what the record calls blinding speed. The second moved low across the horizon over trees.

What is on the record

Two tellings on a single channel, two claimant entries covering Carr and four other witnesses, and no documents. The grade is testimony.

The useful feature of this file is the witness arrangement. The filming is described as taking place in front of four other people, which means the footage and the observation are not resting on the same single pair of eyes. Whether that footage survives, and whether anyone has examined it, the archive does not record. Nothing photographic from this case is in our holdings.

Southern Manitoba produced a run of reports in this period, and Carman in particular has a long local reputation for them. As with Wandsworth elsewhere in this batch, a cluster is ambiguous: it can mean sustained activity or a community primed to look, and this archive cannot separate those from reports alone.

Why it sits where it does

L3 on multiple tellings and multiple witnesses to one connected event, carried by a single channel. What Alan Carr filmed over Carman is not resolved here.
