The Potato over Cheyenne Mountain

In February 2022 five US Army soldiers at Fort Carson, Colorado, watched a silent white object shaped like a potato hang motionless over Cheyenne Mountain. One said its panels shifted in slow waves before it "cloaked" in the time it took to turn a head. An intelligence analysis later offered sunlight scattered off snow onto low cloud, with low confidence, and AARO lists the case as unresolved. This is the record of what the soldiers reported, not a verdict on what was over the mountain.

◆ THE SHORT VERSION

  • The Potato over Cheyenne Mountain is a reported UAP case in Over Cheyenne Mountain, seen from Fort Carson, Colorado, USA, 15 February 2022.
  • Five soldiers at Fort Carson reported a silent white 'potato'-shaped object hanging motionless over Cheyenne Mountain, its surface covered in panels one of them said shifted in slow waves.
  • One witness told the FBI the object 'cloaked' in the time it took to turn a head; another said it vanished when they looked away to fetch a phone.
  • Each soldier drew the object on his own afterwards, one witness says, and the drawings matched.
  • An intelligence analysis suggested with low confidence that sunlight off snow lit low cloud, though the soldiers reported a clear sky; AARO lists the case as unresolved.
  • For this case Fractured Realities holds 4 distinct sources and 4 corroborating primary documents.
  • The archive grades it L2 · MULTI-CHANNEL — it is attested across more than one independent channel.

Counts are resolved totals of what sources say, computed 2026-10-03; the reported details above are claims in the record, not findings. A record of reports, not a verdict on what happened.

The object hung over a saddle in Cheyenne Mountain, perfectly still and making no sound. Five soldiers from one unit were outside a building on Fort Carson when all of them saw it. One later described it to the FBI as "potato" shaped and creamy white, "made up of what can best be described as articulating fish scales or panels". The object itself never moved. The panels did, he said, each shifting "in slow waves starting at different points of origin but at the same time". After about two minutes it was gone. In his word it "cloaked" in the space of time it took to turn a head.

What is on the record

Three FBI records and one intelligence analysis carry the case, all published in the Department of War's third PURSUE release on 12 June 2026. An FBI FD-1057 records a forensic sketch interview in June 2024 with a former Army intelligence officer, and the FBI's digital rendering drawn from it is in the release. An FBI FD-302 records a separate interview in March 2025. That soldier called the object matte, off-white and "bean-shaped", covered in "intersecting lines or ridges". None of the five had a phone, and when they looked away to send for one it vanished. Each man drew it on his own afterwards and the drawings matched.

The two accounts differ in detail. One puts the sighting at about 11:25 am and the other at 1 or 2 pm. One says two minutes and the other three to five. The FD-302 witness said AARO had never interviewed him.

The analysis, ICA-UAP-D001, is the work of an unnamed Intelligence Community partner of AARO. It dates the sighting to 15 February 2022 and sets the object "roughly the size of a large jet" some 300 to 500 feet above the mountain. It assessed with low confidence that sunlight reflected off snow lit the underside of low cloud. The soldiers reported a clear sky, while the weather reports it cites indicated cloud. AARO says the case remains unresolved.

Why it sits where it does

The page grades L2. Its records come from two agencies, the FBI and an intelligence partner, but the soldiers' names and unit are withheld, so no identified witness stands behind them. No independent testimony sits beside the records in the archive. The tier measures sourcing rather than truth. What hung over Cheyenne Mountain is not resolved here.
