The ISS feed cut

A journalist relates that during a demonstration of the International Space Station's downlink at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, eight or nine egg-shaped objects floated into view on an external station camera and the feed was switched off. This is the record of what was claimed, not a verdict on what crossed the frame.

◆ THE SHORT VERSION

  • The ISS feed cut is a reported UAP case in Earth orbit, Approx. 2 years before interview.
  • Ross Coulthart relates that during a demonstration of the space station's live downlink at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, eight or nine egg-shaped objects floated into view on an external station camera.
  • The feed was then switched off, according to the account, and replaced with a message that the transmission was temporarily interrupted.
  • The four claimants are Coulthart, an unnamed Marshall principal, the unnamed wife of a former senior NASA official and a figure one telling calls "the spaceman"; the journalist says he saw it with his own eyes, and the other three reach the archive only through him, so one first-hand account carries the case.
  • NASA's explanation of record for feed drops is that the station regularly passes out of range of its relay satellites, as a spokesman said in 2016; the archive has found no record of this demonstration.
  • For this case Fractured Realities holds 2 distinct sources and 4 distinct claimants on its resolved list.
  • The archive grades it L3 · MULTI-SOURCE — multiple independent sources attest to it.

Counts are resolved totals of what sources say, computed 2026-10-03; the reported details above are claims in the record, not findings. A record of reports, not a verdict on what happened.

The story is told by Ross Coulthart of NewsNation and is set roughly two years before his interview; the fact sheet carries no year. According to his account he had gone to Marshall while in Huntsville for a UAP conference, and one of the centre's principals was showing his party the bank of screens carrying the station's live downlink. Eight or nine egg-shaped objects floated into view on a camera pointed away from the station. Coulthart says he asked whether they were a Starlink release and was told no. The feed was then switched off and replaced with a message that the transmission was temporarily interrupted. The camera was in orbit; the viewing was on the ground.

What is on the record

The archive holds two tellings from one channel and resolves four claimants: Coulthart, a Marshall Space Center principal, the wife of a former senior NASA official and a figure one telling calls "the spaceman". The last three are not named in the material the archive holds, and their accounts reach it only through the journalist, who says he saw it with his own eyes. In practice one first-hand account carries this case, and the reader should weigh it as such. There is no footage in the file.

Outside its holdings the archive has found no record of this particular demonstration or cut. The mechanism described is real and documented. Marshall houses the centre that handles station payload operations, and NASA's explanation of record for its live feed dropping to a slate is that the station regularly passes out of range of the relay satellites that carry its video. A NASA spokesman said as much in 2016 when a similar cut drew attention. Objects on station cameras are, in the cases that have been examined, most often debris or ice close to the lens. None of that settles what a group in Huntsville saw on a given day, and the archive does not claim it does.

Why it sits where it does

This case grades L3 on the archive's count of four claimants. That number needs the caveat above: three of the four are unnamed people described by the fourth, and the tier measures how many sources the archive resolved rather than whether the story is true. The record holds a journalist's account of a feed cut and a routine explanation of why feeds cut. What floated across the camera is not resolved here.
