The Dulce Mutilations

Beginning in June 1976, cattle on the Gomez ranch at Dulce, New Mexico, were found mutilated, and the investigation that followed logged something odd: markings on the animals that only showed under ultraviolet light. This is the record of the investigated deaths, not a verdict on what caused them.

Beginning on 14 June 1976, cattle belonging to rancher Manuel Gomez were found mutilated on Jicarilla Apache land around Dulce in northern New Mexico. Officer Gabe Valdez investigated, working with a scientist named Howard Burgess, and the pair examined the herd under ultraviolet light. Of eighty head of cattle, five carried markings invisible by day: a powdery white substance, high in potassium and magnesium, that fluoresced under the lamp. One telling goes further and says those elements matched ash reported dropped by a UFO seen over Taos in July 1978.

What is on the record

The archive resolves four claimants, Valdez, Burgess, Gomez and Peter A. Jordan, across three videos from a single channel, and one government document sits in the file: a CIA record released under FOIA. That primary paper is what lifts the entry above testimony alone. The tellings describe the animals as drained of blood and carry cover-up talk around the investigation, and all of that reaches the archive as claim rather than finding. One thing the file does not contain is worth saying plainly. The name Dulce trails a later lore of an underground base, and nothing in this record describes one. The entry is about the cattle.

Why it sits where it does

Dulce grades L4, witness plus primary document: named investigators on the ground and government paperwork behind them. The grade measures the sourcing, not the explanation, and the file offers no explanation at all, only the count of five marked animals out of eighty and a claim about matching ash. What the record holds is a documented 1976 investigation into cattle deaths that the investigators could not account for. What was killing cattle at Dulce is not resolved here.
