At dusk on 24 July 1991 two men canoeing Nine Mile Swamp near Hubbardsville, New York, said they came on a glowing conical machine on legs in the woods with two pale, large-eyed beings beside it, one of which waved. - The Hubbardsville canoeists described the machine as standing on three legs with amber lights, with a spotlight-like fixture that turned towards them but cast no light on them.
- Arcuri and Piazza say that when they returned to Nine Mile Swamp three days later they found a circle of forest floor about 30 feet across stripped to fine sifted powder, with the trees around it untouched.
