In the autumn of 1991, four young people parked on a forest gravel road in Sweden reported a distant light that answered when one of them tapped the brakes. The account begins with a game. Parked on a forest gravel road in Sweden in the autumn of 1991, Ingmar noticed a distant light flashing and tapped his brakes at it. The light answered. He did it again and it answered again, and the responses grew more insistent. Then his companions began to scream. What they described coming out of the treeline towards the open car door was a glowing figure without a face. The interior of the car filled with a dazzling white light, and the light stayed with them as they drove off at seventy kilometres an hour before it went. The three passengers later retained no memory of any of it, according to the account.
What is on the record
This entry rests on one telling from one channel, carrying four claimants. That is the whole of it. Ingmar is the only one of the four who is said to remember the night, which means the corroboration implied by four names is not corroboration at all in practice. Three of the claimants are described as having lost the memory, and the account of their loss comes from the one person who kept his.
The location is not clean either. The canonical names Martebo while the location field describes a gravel road roughly two kilometres north of a bog recorded under a different spelling, and no precise site is fixed. No documents accompany the case. There are no photographs, no trace evidence and no contemporaneous report. The brake-light exchange, the faceless figure and the pursuit are all carried by the same single narrative.
Why it sits where it does
The case grades L3 on the number of people placed at the scene, but the sourcing behind that grade is one account through one channel, and the archive should be read as holding a single testimony rather than four. What answered from the trees, if anything did, is not resolved here.
