The Doraty Calf

Under hypnosis Judy Doraty recalled watching a calf sucked up into a beam of light. She then saw it mutilated with instruments aboard a craft, the telling says, and the public record adds that its tongue, eyes and sex organs were removed. The conscious memory was far smaller. The family were on the road home from a bingo game and argued about a bright light that was pacing the car. Doraty got out to look at it. She came back nauseous and thirsty, and the family reached home two hours late with no awareness of the lost time.

The telling places the drive near Houston. The public record puts it near Alto Loma in Galveston County, between Houston and Texas City.

What is on the record

Two claimants are resolved. One is Doraty. The other is her teenage daughter, who was fourteen at the time and whom the archive describes by role. The telling counts five family members in the car. The public record lists four: Doraty, her mother, her sister-in-law and the daughter.

The case is documented outside the archive. It has a NICAP case file and an entry in the rr0 catalogue, which dates the night to 14 May 1973. It appears in Linda Moulton Howe's book A Strange Harvest from 1980. The record also includes hypnosis transcripts from Leo Sprinkle. The account of the calf rests on what Doraty recalled under hypnosis. That is a recollection and not a record of events. No investigation by any official body is known, and no explanation is on file.

Why it sits where it does

This is the classic pairing of an abduction with a cattle mutilation, and it grades L3 on two witnesses from one family. The conscious part of the night has several witnesses. The part about the calf has one. What happened on the road near Alto Loma is not resolved here.
