The Game Wardens' Three Lights
Late on 30 May 1989 three game wardens on an anti-poaching patrol at La Neuvelle-lès-Lure in the Haute-Saône watched three flashing lights hang overhead, shoot straight up, drop back and switch on a red light between them before zigzagging away. A fighter jet passed minutes later, and they could hear that one. France's state UAP unit files the case as unidentified after investigation. This is the record of what the wardens reported, not a verdict on what flew over them.
◆ THE SHORT VERSION
- The Game Wardens' Three Lights is a reported UAP case in La Neuvelle-lès-Lure, Haute-Saône, France, 30 May 1989.
- Three game wardens on a night anti-poaching patrol reported three silent lights set in a triangle, firing violent flashes directly above them.
- The lights shot straight up in zigzags until nearly out of sight, then dropped back just as fast and stopped over the wardens' heads again, by their account.
- A red light came on in the middle of the three, and in a few zigzags and a few seconds the thing was gone; two colleagues 500 metres away saw only a flash or two on the horizon.
- A fighter jet passed minutes later and the wardens heard its engine; GEIPAN says it could not be confused with the silent lights and files the case as class D, unidentified.
- For this case Fractured Realities holds 1 distinct source, 1 corroborating primary document and 2 distinct claimants on its resolved list.
- The archive grades it L4 · OFFICIAL RECORD — a released government record names who saw it, the top of our scale, though no independent testimony sits beside that record.
Counts are resolved totals of what sources say, computed 2026-10-03; the reported details above are claims in the record, not findings. A record of reports, not a verdict on what happened.
