In the early hours of 27 July 1984 a flaming object throwing sparks was reported coming down into Bellingham Bay in Washington State, seen from vessels on the water and reported to the Coast Guard, which searched and found nothing. Months later a private dive team said they had located an object on the bay floor. This is the record of what was reported and searched for.
◆ THE SHORT VERSION
- The Bellingham Bay Splashdown is a reported UAP case in Bellingham Bay near Carter Point, Lummi Island, USA, 27 July 1984 (retrieval Dec 30, 1984).
- A large flaming object throwing sparks was seen from more than one vessel coming down into Bellingham Bay at around 3.45 in the morning, and the Coast Guard is recorded as confirming the event.
- Five months later a private dive team said it found a metallic gold-coloured object roughly ten feet by thirty on the bay floor; a diver said he stood on it and sensed a humming.
- The diver afterwards suffered decompression sickness and a reddish residue, and a ship is said to have anchored over the site overnight, after which the object was gone.
- The Coast Guard leaned towards a meteorite, and the contemporary version of the divers' find is a teacup-shaped object rather than a gold slab.
