The Mariannelund Visitors

On an evening in September 1959, during a power cut in Mariannelund in Småland, electrician Gideon Johansson and his son saw a glowing domed craft come down through a tree and hover just above the street ten feet away. Two small beings were visible inside. This is the record of what was reported, not a verdict on what came down.

◆ THE SHORT VERSION

  • The Mariannelund Visitors is a reported UAP case in Mariannelund, Småland, Sweden, Sweden, September 1959.
  • Gideon Johansson and his son said a glowing domed craft came down through a tree during a power cut in Mariannelund, Sweden, in September 1959 and hovered just above the street ten feet away.
  • Catalogue accounts of the Mariannelund encounter describe two small beings with high-crowned heads, big eyes and black cross-belts working at an instrument panel inside the craft.
  • One telling says Johansson received telepathic impressions of the beings' home world and later suffered severe leg pain attributed to radiation burns.
  • The catalogues record prickling pains for Johansson and glassy deposits found later on the Mariannelund power lines.
  • For this case Fractured Realities holds 1 distinct source and 2 distinct claimants on its resolved list.
  • The archive grades it L3 · MULTI-SOURCE — multiple independent sources attest to it.

Counts are resolved totals of what sources say, computed 2026-10-03; the reported details above are claims in the record, not findings. A record of reports, not a verdict on what happened.

Two small figures inside the craft seemed to be working at an instrument panel. They had high-crowned heads and big eyes and wore black belts crossed over their chests, according to the catalogue accounts. In the archive's telling the craft came down silently into the neighbourhood during a town blackout. It damaged a tree on the way and hovered about half a metre above the street while the two mute beings repaired it. Gideon Johansson says he received telepathic impressions of the beings' home world. Afterwards he suffered severe pain in his legs, which the telling attributes to radiation burns.

What is on the record

The two claimants are Johansson and his son. The son is named in the sources but his age is not given, and he is described here by role.

The case appears in the HUMCAT catalogue by way of APRO, in Eberhart's chronology and in an article by Anders Liljegren in Flying Saucer Review in 1970. Those sources disagree on the date. HUMCAT and Johnson's catalogue give 29 September at 6.55pm. Eberhart puts it in late October. This page follows September.

The catalogues also differ from the archive's telling on two points. The tree was a maple and not the linden our telling names. The after-effects they describe are prickling pains for Johansson and glassy deposits found later on the power lines. The radiation burns come from the retelling. No official investigation is recorded, and nobody has put forward an explanation.

Why it sits where it does

The case grades L3, but its two claimants are a father and son telling one story, and the archive holds that story in one telling on one channel. The case's weight comes from the catalogue tradition, where it has been recorded since at least 1970. What Johansson and his son saw in the street is not resolved here.
