The Meknès Bright Spot

At 13:00 on 7 June 1952 a bright spot crossed the sky over Meknès in French Morocco so fast that T-33 jets near the air base looked "very slow by comparison", one of two witnesses said. It trailed white smoke without a sound, flew a parabola, stopped and vanished towards Ifrane. The CIA knew it from an Echo d'Alger item it collected. This is the record of what was reported, not a verdict on what flew over Meknès.

The two witnesses had jets to measure it against. One said he saw a bright spot "moving at lightning speed" above Meknès at 13:00 on 7 June 1952. Some T-33 aircraft were flying near the Meknès base, and beside the spot they seemed very slow. It left a white trail of smoke and made no sound. It drew nearer and described a parabola in the sky. Then it stopped and disappeared towards Ifrane in the south.

What is on the record

The source is a foreign press report the CIA collected, not a CIA investigation. The Agency's report 00-W-23759, "Flying Saucers in Spain and North Africa", was distributed on 27 August 1952 as unevaluated information. It quotes the Algiers daily Echo d'Alger of 11 June. The same page carries saucer reports from Taourirt and Casablanca, and the Casablanca item says Meknès and Marrakech had already had theirs. The Moroccan news site Le Desk retold the item in its coverage of the CIA files. No other account was found.

The witnesses are not named. The record gives no explanation and none was found elsewhere.

Why it sits where it does

The page grades L0 · SINGLE ACCOUNT. One newspaper item carries two unnamed witnesses, so the record holds no identified witness and no primary paper. The tier measures sourcing rather than truth. What outran the jets over Meknès is not resolved here.
