The White Object over the Gulf

On the night of 14 May 2020 a US military crew on an infrared surveillance task over the northern Persian Gulf followed a "solid white object" that made erratic movements above the water. It zoomed in on the object and then lost it. This is the record of what the crew reported, not a verdict on what was over the water.

◆ THE SHORT VERSION

  • The White Object over the Gulf is a reported UAP case in Northern Persian Gulf (open water), per the form's contact coordinates, 14 May 2020, 20:40Z.
  • A night surveillance crew over the northern Persian Gulf reported a solid white object that flew through its sensor's view and appeared to make erratic movements above the water.
  • The crew says it lost the object, found it again and reached 4x zoom before poor track placement lost it for good.
  • In AARO's description of the paired video, a blue reticle briefly appears on the contact but never acquires a lock.
  • The crew's debrief form ticks 'Round' and logs one contact at a constant altitude; neither the form nor AARO offers an explanation.
  • For this case Fractured Realities holds 2 distinct sources, 2 corroborating primary documents and 1 claimant on its resolved list.
  • The archive grades it L4 · OFFICIAL RECORD — a released government record names who saw it, the top of our scale, though no independent testimony sits beside that record.

Counts are resolved totals of what sources say, computed 2026-10-03; the reported details above are claims in the record, not findings. A record of reports, not a verdict on what happened.

At 20:40Z a solid white object flew through the sensor's field of view. The crew lost it and found it again. Then it followed the object as it "appeared to make erratic moments above the water", in the form's own spelling. The sensor reached 4x zoom before poor track placement lost the object for good. According to the form, the operator worked the sensor the whole time to keep it in sight, which is why the waves below keep coming and going in the footage.

What is on the record

The document is a one-page Range Fouler Debrief Form, DOW-UAP-D38, released through US Central Command and published in the Department of War's first PURSUE release on 8 May 2026. It logs a single contact during a night ISR mission. The crew ticked "Round" and no other shape. The altitude box reads 20000, marked constant, and the trackfile is logged as intermittent. The form's coordinates put the contact over open water in the northern Persian Gulf, roughly midway between the Saudi and Iranian coasts. The squadron, the names and the crew positions are withheld, and the release titles the case only "Middle East".

The release pairs the form with 2 minutes 17 seconds of infrared video, DOW-UAP-PR036. AARO's description has an "area of contrast" entering from the left at five seconds, leaving, re-entering and then staying roughly in view for about a minute while the sensor zooms twice. At 2:10 "a blue reticle briefly appears on screen but does not acquire a lock". Seconds later the sensor switches mode and loses track. The clip opens on a small vessel the sensor was watching before the contact appeared.

Neither the form nor AARO offers an explanation. The release files the case as unresolved.

Why it sits where it does

L4 · OFFICIAL RECORD — a released government record names who saw it. The observers are a military aircrew on a surveillance task, identified by role with the squadron withheld. No independent testimony sits beside the form in the archive, and the tier measures sourcing rather than truth. What the crew followed above the water is not resolved here.
