The Nemėžis Police Sphere
Shortly after midnight on 25 June 1996 two Lithuanian motor police officers on the Vilnius–Medininkai road near Nemėžis reported a pulsing sphere hanging twenty to thirty metres above the ground and crackling like electricity, which rose and sped off towards Vilnius as they walked towards it. Soldiers, dog handlers and radiation monitors were called out, and the grass beneath it was found flattened in a ten-metre circle. The account survives as a Russian news-agency report that the CIA's Foreign Broadcast Information Service translated. This is the record of what was reported, not a verdict on what hung over the field.
