The Nivala Glowing Sphere

Elsa Koutonen described being woken in the night by something shaking her shoulder, and finding the room brightly lit with no ordinary source. Looking out towards the forest, she and her sister Alli saw a glowing ball hovering about three metres above the ground.

What is on the record

Two tellings on a single channel, two named claimants, and no documents. The grade is testimony.

The element that carries this file is medical rather than visual. Elsa is described as reaching her hand towards the light, and later developing a burn-like mark that was treated at the Nivala health centre. That is the sort of detail that in principle leaves a record outside the witness's own account. No clinical note is in our holdings, so the treatment is reported rather than confirmed here, but it is a checkable claim, which most of what this archive holds is not.

The second telling adds a three-pointed craft with powerful lights alongside the glowing ball, and records that investigators used hologram technology and specialists from the University of Oulu in examining the case. Neither the investigation nor its findings are in our archive.

Finland has a long and comparatively well-documented sighting record, and a rural village in August is a setting with plenty of ordinary candidates for a low bright light. The record does not work through them.
