The Olaria Keuffer Vigil

The place is a brickworks on the Rio Guajará in Ananindeua at the mainland edge of Belém in Pará. The archive's telling places it in the Colares area. The documented site is the Keuffer brickworks across the bay from Colares on the mainland; the archive's transcription renders the name as Keusser. In December 1977 a night vigil there watched multiple luminous objects pass low over the river according to the account the archive holds. A large windowed object shaped like an American football passed slowly overhead. Later a blue light the team described as a sun hovered sixty metres away for about three minutes and the account records that it prompted fear of abduction. Film taken that night is said to show an open door emitting a beam of light towards the team's boat.

What is on the record

Three claimants are resolved: Uyrangê Hollanda, who led the vigil, Air Force agents with him, and a man recorded as Luiz. The documented sequence has two parts. A clay-digger at the brickworks, Luiz Pereira Rodrigues, reported a luminous object and a figure in early November, and it was that report which brought the Air Force team to the river the following month. The archive's telling merges the two into one vigil; they are one site and two episodes.

This is the case in the batch with the most paperwork behind it, and the archive holds none of that paperwork. The vigil was part of Operação Prato, the Brazilian Air Force's 1977 investigation in Pará, and its reports and photographs were transferred to the national archive in 2009. What the archive holds is one telling through one channel. The film described in it is not in our holdings.

Why it sits where it does

This case grades L3, the archive's tier for multiple independent claimants describing one connected event. Military witnesses on an official operation carry it there. It cannot go higher until the operation's own reports enter our holdings, and they exist. What passed over the Rio Guajará is not resolved here.
