The Blue Triangle over a Security Facility (2023)

One night in March 2023 a civilian in the US Pacific time zone reported a large blue triangle with lights along its edges that hovered over or near a national security facility for about three minutes and then backed away in jerks. The account survives only as a summary in Defense Department emails. This is the record of what was reported, not a verdict on what was in the sky.

The reporter described a large blue triangle with "a solid, unwavering silhouette". Powerful "whitish blue" light shone from several points along its perimeter, and it bore no markings at all. For about three minutes it hovered stationary "above or near a national security facility". Then it moved higher in the reporter's view, "backing up" in a "jerking" or "jumping" way that the reporter thought unlike "smooth" jet propulsion. The whole observation lasted about eight minutes. The reporter could not say how it was controlled or propelled or which end was the front. They "didn't think" it was a drone.

What is on the record

The source is DOW-UAP-D51, released by the Department of War on 8 May 2026 in its first PURSUE release. It is an email chain. An information disclosure analyst in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security asked the Air Force Office of Special Investigations to clear an unclassified summary of an intelligence information report. The OSI officer explained that declassifying such reports "is lengthy and requires AFOSI Commander signature" and then approved the summary for unclassified use. Only the summary was released. The report behind it is withheld.

That makes the record second-hand. Beyond "Pacific Time Zone", "March 2023", "Night" and "Civilian", the place, the facility, the date and the reporter are all withheld. The summary lists the report as "Obtained by: Personal cellular device". It does not say any photograph or video exists, and none has been released. The reporter also offered views on things not seen, such as the absence of any "cloaking capabilities". The record gives no explanation, and no outside report can be matched to it.

Why it sits where it does

The archive grades this L0: a single account in a single document. The reporter is an unnamed civilian, so the record carries no identified witness. The tier measures sourcing rather than truth. What hovered near the facility is not resolved here.
