Joseph Perry's Moon Slide (1960)
In February 1960 Joseph Perry, a Michigan pizza-house owner who photographed the Moon through a home-made telescope, found a glowing, flat-bottomed oval with a trail on one of his slides and gave it to the FBI. The FBI passed it to the Air Force, which, according to a later FBI memo, returned it with a letter saying the "object" was part of the negative that had not been properly developed. This is the record of what was reported, not a verdict on what crossed the Moon.
◆ THE SHORT VERSION
- Joseph Perry's Moon Slide (1960) is a reported UAP case in Grand Blanc, Michigan (telescope photograph of the Moon), USA, 21 February 1960, about 1:00 a.m..
- Joseph Perry reported that one of his telescope photographs of the Moon showed a flat-bottomed oval object with "a fluorescent glow" and "a vapor trail running behind it."
- A photographer of thirty years, he insisted the shape was not a camera fault, a telescope blur or a developing error.
- The FBI passed his slides to the Air Force; Perry wrote to President Eisenhower to get his transparency back.
- According to a later FBI memo, the Air Force returned the slide saying the object was "a part of the negative which was not properly developed"; Dave Downey, who passed this on, did not believe it.
