The B-29 and the Phoenix Object
On the evening of 29 June 1950 FBI staff and many others in Phoenix, Arizona, watched an object that radar put at 30,000 to 35,000 feet. A B-29 of the 509th Bomb Group was sent after it and circled beneath it. The object was followed west until a thunderstorm hid it near Blythe in California. An Air Force fighter pilot who climbed to 47,000 feet reported a balloon and the Air Force closed the case. This is the record of what was seen, tracked and chased, not a verdict on what was in the sky.
