The Bronze Cigar over the Test Range (2023)

On a September morning in 2023 a base official driving contractors to a drone test on a restricted US military range told the FBI she saw a silent "metallic bronze" cigar, two or three Black Hawks long, with a light like looking into the sun, before it simply disappeared. A contractor in her convoy described the object too. This is the record of what they reported, not a verdict on what was over the trees.

◆ THE SHORT VERSION

  • The Bronze Cigar over the Test Range (2023) is a reported UAP case in A restricted test range on a US military site (name and state withheld), September 2023.
  • A base official told the FBI that a silent, metallic bronze cigar two or three Black Hawks long hung over a restricted test range before it simply disappeared.
  • She said its intense diamond-white light was like looking into the sun, and that she felt it left when it saw them.
  • A contractor in the convoy described a metallic grey object with a bright light that went out as the object vanished.
  • According to the FBI files, the gate the convoy drove through had failed to open three times just before the sighting.
  • For this case Fractured Realities holds 3 distinct sources and 3 corroborating primary documents.
  • The archive grades it L1 · SINGLE CHANNEL — it is retold more than once, but everything traces back through one channel.

Counts are resolved totals of what sources say, computed 2026-10-03; the reported details above are claims in the record, not findings. A record of reports, not a verdict on what happened.

The gate had failed three times. Between 7:15 and 7:30 am the official pressed her fob and it opened a little and closed again, then gave way on the fourth try. As she drove through she looked up and saw a "cigar shaped object with an extremely bright light" to the south-west, 500 to 3,000 feet above the tree line. It was almost hovering and drifting from east to west. At its eastern end burned "an intense diamond white light" with what looked like a ring around it. It was "metallic bronze in color" and completely silent. She watched for five to ten seconds. "Then the object just disappeared." She felt it left when it saw them, and in fifteen years at the site she had never seen anything like it.

What is on the record

The sources are FBI interview reports (FD-302) released by the Department of War on 8 May 2026 in its first PURSUE release. The first records the official, interviewed in person. The second records a contractor and drone pilot interviewed by FaceTime. He saw "a linear object with a super bright light on the east side", metallic grey, one to two Black Hawks long and about 5,000 feet up. It moved east to west until "the light went out and the object vanished". That night a storm knocked out the television in his hotel room, and he slept badly for two nights.

The two accounts differ on colour, size and height, and one man in the second vehicle could not be got to see it at all. A third interview in the same FBI file describes only a bright light at around 9:00 am that its teller thought might be a meteor. Names, the base and the exact date are withheld, and nobody took a photograph.

UAP Register has published an FAA report of a similar metallic cigar over Avon Park Air Force Range in Florida on 15 September 2023. The FBI files name no site, so that link stays unproven.

Why it sits where it does

The archive grades this L1: three FBI documents from one agency. Every witness is redacted, so the record carries no identified witness. The tier measures sourcing rather than truth. What hung over the tree line is not resolved here.
