The Disc over the Rogue River
On 24 May 1949 employees of an aeronautical laboratory, out by a river near its mouth, studied a metallic object through 8-power binoculars for up to three minutes before it sped off with no visible propulsion. Battelle's Project Blue Book Special Report No. 14 kept it as one of its twelve best-described unknowns, while Blue Book's own card for the Rogue River sighting it is identified with says "AIRCRAFT". This is the record of what was reported, not a verdict on what flew over the water.
◆ THE SHORT VERSION
- The Disc over the Rogue River is a reported UAP case in Rogue River near Elephant Rock, about 2.5 miles above the mouth, near Gold Beach, Oregon, United States, 24 May 1949, about 17:00.
- Aeronautical laboratory employees by a river watched a metallic object through 8-power binoculars, close enough to see that its skin was dirty, before it accelerated to what seemed jet speed with no visible propulsion.
- Battelle's Special Report No. 14 kept it as one of only twelve "good UNKNOWNS" and sketched it as a flat oval with a raised fin.
- Bruce Maccabee's analysis identifies it as the Rogue River sighting near Gold Beach, Oregon, in which two of the five people fishing worked at the NACA Ames laboratory.
- Blue Book's own record card for the Rogue River sighting gives the conclusion "AIRCRAFT" because nothing showed it could not have been one.
- For this case Fractured Realities holds 1 distinct source and 1 corroborating primary document.
- The archive grades it L0 · SINGLE ACCOUNT — the archive holds one account of it, from a single source.
Counts are resolved totals of what sources say, computed 2026-10-03; the reported details above are claims in the record, not findings. A record of reports, not a verdict on what happened.
