The procedure took place in Los Angeles. Dr John Mattriciano removed an object about a quarter of an inch across from Tim Cullen's left wrist, with ufologists and journalists present as witnesses. The surgery was arranged in the circle around Dr Roger Leir, who is named in the file alongside Barbara Lamb and Cullen's wife Janet. Analysis afterwards is reported to have found the object amorphous and magnetic, encased in an unusual membrane, and without the fibrous cyst that ordinarily forms around a foreign body in tissue.
What is on the record
One telling, one video, one reporting channel. The archive resolves five claimants and they are the people in the room: Tim Cullen, Leir, Mattriciano, Lamb and Janet Cullen. That is a small and closely connected group rather than independent lines of report.
The absence of the cyst is the whole weight of the claim, and it is the claim the archive is least able to check. No laboratory report, no pathology, no imaging and no documents of any kind are in the file. The finding reaches the record as a description of analysis rather than as analysis, and the object itself is not in the archive's hands.
The dating does not hold together. The record spans 1990 to 1999 while its own best date reads as the late 1990s or the 2000s, so the two fields disagree and the year cannot be fixed from the file.
One further gap is worth naming. The entry is indexed as an implant case, but the file contains no account of an encounter, an abduction or any other event that would explain how the object came to be there. The removal is the whole of the record.
Why it sits where it does
The entry carries an L3 label because several claimants attach to one event, though they were all present at the same procedure and all reach the archive through one channel. What the record holds is that a small object was surgically removed from a man's wrist before witnesses and that unusual properties were reported for it. What was taken out of Tim Cullen's wrist is not resolved here.
