The Milk Hill Galaxy
2001 · Milk Hill, Alton Barnes · Wiltshire · England
WHAT IT IS
409 circles in six curving arms, laid on a sloping hillside below the Alton Barnes white horse. The largest geometric formation on record.
THE ALIEN READING
Temporary Temples calls it 'the largest geometrically complex formation of all time'. Proponents say it appeared in a single wet, windy night and came out true despite the uneven slope. It is among the formations most often cited online as beyond human reach.
WHAT THE RECORD SAYS
No maker has claimed it. Blogs that say the Circlemakers did appear to have borrowed the Julia Set's 'three men, three hours' story; there is no first-hand claim. Nothing beyond its scale has been offered for a non-human cause, and makers had shown formations of a hundred circles going down at about one a minute.
WHERE IT STANDS
Disputed. No maker has claimed it. Sceptics say people made it; proponents point to what they say people could not do.
