The Amy Rylance Abduction

Amy Rylance was asleep in the living room when, the accounts say, a beam of light carried her out through the window and into a huge ship. Her friend Petra watched it happen and fainted. One version has the craft landing in the front yard first. Her husband Keith called the police. Rylance woke about eight hundred kilometres away in Mackay three hours later, by that account. The archive files the event under Gundiah and Meriburra in Queensland on the night of 4 to 5 October 2001, though none of the tellings states that date itself.

What is on the record

Three tellings on two channels resolve to three claimants: Rylance, Petra and Keith. Two of the tellings come from one channel and match closely. The third disagrees on the measurements. It puts the distance at seven hundred and ninety kilometres, has her found at a petrol station, and reports her saying she spent five to seven days aboard with a figure she described as a man. A gap between three hours and a week is not a rounding error. That telling accounts for the gap by suggesting travel backwards through time. The archive records the discrepancy rather than resolving it.

Physical evidence is claimed but not held. The accounts mention a torn curtain and a singed bush at the house, and marks on Rylance that she attributes to DNA tests done on her. None of that is in the file. It is described in the tellings, and description is all the archive has.

There are no documents, no police paperwork despite the reported call, and no photographs. The case is entirely testimony, and much of it is Rylance's own testimony relayed through interviewers.

Why it sits where it does

The case grades L3 because more than one person is named as a claimant to a connected event, chiefly Petra as a witness to the taking.
