The Calvine Photograph

In 1990, near Calvine in the Scottish Highlands, two people reported photographing a large diamond-shaped object hovering in daylight, and the images went to the Ministry of Defence. The photograph and the files around it are the case. This is the record of what was captured and assessed, not a verdict on what stood in the sky.

Near Calvine, in the Highlands of Perthshire, two people reported watching a large diamond-shaped object hang in the daytime sky in 1990. The account puts it at some seventy-five feet, solid, hovering, and then accelerating straight up and away. They photographed it. The images made their way to the Ministry of Defence, and it is the photograph and the paper trail it generated that keep the case in the archive.

What is on the record

The archive resolves a single claimant here, though the account describes two witnesses to the sighting. The strength of the case is paperwork. The file holds two government primary records from the Ministry of Defence UFO files, drawn from the DEFE 24 series held at the UK National Archives. One telling reports that six images were analysed by the MoD and JARIC and the object assessed as a real and solid structured craft of unknown origin. The same telling says Pope rated it a '10'. Another notes the object may match an entry listed as Astra or Aurora in the later Condign report. Those are the sources' characterisations and not the archive's.

A note on dating. The record's year span runs from 1990 to 2023. The photograph and its files surfaced and re-surfaced over decades rather than in one moment. The sighting itself is placed in 1990.

Why it sits where it does

Calvine grades L4, the archive's document-corroborated tier, because government paperwork rather than retelling carries it. The evidence class is an official record: the Ministry of Defence's own files are in the archive. What the photograph shows, and what stood over Calvine that day, is not resolved here.
