The Choisy-le-Roi Portholes
At 22:12 on 21 May 2012 a driver stopped at a red light in Choisy-le-Roi, south-east of Paris, got out to watch an object hanging still above the road with powerful light pouring from small portholes, before it climbed into the cloud and changed shape. GEIPAN, the French space agency's UAP investigation unit, rejected a festive balloon and holds the case as class D, an object of unknown nature. This is the record of what one driver reported, not a verdict on what hung over the road.
◆ THE SHORT VERSION
- The Choisy-le-Roi Portholes is a reported UAP case in Choisy-le-Roi, Val-de-Marne, France, 21 May 2012.
- A driver stopped at a red light reported a cylindrical object 'like an icon with its point towards the ground' hanging motionless over the road, powerful light pouring from small portholes.
- An orange glowing sphere surrounded it, by the driver's account; then it rose, changed into an inverted V, turned white and vanished into the cloud within 15 seconds.
- GEIPAN weighed a festive balloon, the only plausible explanation it found, and rejected it: the shape, the lit portholes, the stop over the road and the change of shape did not fit.
- GEIPAN itself notes the limits: a very precise account, but a single witness, no photograph, and nobody else in the town reported it.
- For this case Fractured Realities holds 1 distinct source and 1 corroborating primary document.
- The archive grades it L0 · SINGLE ACCOUNT — the archive holds one account of it, from a single source.
Counts are resolved totals of what sources say, computed 2026-10-03; the reported details above are claims in the record, not findings. A record of reports, not a verdict on what happened.
