The Tremonton Film

In 1952 a US Navy photographer driving through Utah stopped and filmed a cluster of bright objects moving in formation over Tremonton. The 16mm footage went to military analysts and was later reviewed by a government advisory panel. This is the record of what was filmed and reported, not a verdict on what was above the road.

◆ THE SHORT VERSION

  • The Tremonton Film is a reported UAP case in the USA, 2 July 1952.
  • The record describes a mass sighting, a disc-shaped craft and a fast-moving object.
  • For this case Fractured Realities holds 4 distinct sources, 28 corroborating primary documents and 2 distinct claimants on its resolved list.
  • The archive grades it L4 · DOC-CORROBORATED — the testimony is corroborated by primary government documents, the top of our scale.

Counts are resolved totals of what sources say, computed 2026-10-03; the reported details above are claims in the record, not findings. A record of reports, not a verdict on what happened.

In 1952 the US Navy photographer Delbert Newhouse was driving with his family near Tremonton in northern Utah. His wife spotted a group of bright objects in the sky and he stopped to film them on a 16mm camera. The accounts describe roughly a dozen silvery saucer-shaped objects moving in loose formation; Newhouse said their shape was that of two inverted saucers. One is said to have reversed course and departed east. The footage passed to military analysts, and it is that footage rather than any later retelling that carries the case.

What is on the record

The archive resolves two claimants, Newhouse and his wife, across a single reporting channel and four videos discussing the film. The summaries agree on daylight, a formation of shining objects and a running camera. They also carry the analysts' verdicts. One telling reports Air Force laboratories classing the footage as unknowns. Another reports a Navy analysis that the objects were internally illuminated spheres travelling at very high speed, not reflections of sunlight. A third records a dispute the archive does not settle: an official reading called the objects soaring gulls, and Dr. Baker argued against it, citing their accelerated high-speed turns and the absence of updrafts.

Beyond the testimony the file holds government paperwork. One primary document is the 1952 to 1953 report of the Scientific Advisory Panel on Unidentified Flying Objects, the body that reviewed films of this kind. A later record concerns a US Air Force committee's review of Project Blue Book. Most of the thirty-two documents attached, though, come from a broad CIA UFO collection and wider government releases. Some have no evident link to a Utah sighting in 1952, a UK Ministry of Defence file among them. The advisory-panel report is the on-point item; the rest are collection breadth rather than confirmation.

Why it sits where it does

Tremonton grades L4, the archive's document-corroborated tier, because government records sit in the file alongside the testimony rather than retelling alone. What the film shows, and what those objects were, is not resolved here.
