The Reis Abduction

A white beam of light pulled the whole car aboard a seventy-foot domed disc through a sliding floor. That is the account of Herminio and Bianca Reis, who had grown drowsy and parked near Matias Barbosa at about 11.45 p.m. As the couple described them, the beings aboard were brown-skinned and green-eyed. They said they came from a planet called Klürmer. They spoke perfect Portuguese through a helmet-and-console translating device and showed the couple a star map. Herminio was a Jehovah's Witness minister and he debated religion with them.

The telling says the beings later programmed Bianca by telepathy for at least seven repeat contacts. It adds that her invalid father was healed by a hovering craft.

What is on the record

Two claimants are resolved: Herminio and Bianca Reis. The story also sits in two catalogues with different citations. The Hatch catalogue cites Hall's UFO Evidence II. Overmeire's chronology cites Chatelain in 1980 and Guieu in 1992. In those sources the couple first saw a glowing balloon that beamed light on them. The car and both of them were drawn up into a circular room inside a craft. Human-like beings used an earphone-and-computer device to translate. They examined the pair, gave them a contact message and released them.

Two details differ from the telling. The archive's source says the couple were held for three days and two nights. The catalogues say about forty-eight hours. The catalogues also disagree on the date. Overmeire gives 12 January 1976 at about 11.30 p.m. and Hatch gives 21 January. No authority is known to have looked into it, and no explanation is on file.

Why it sits where it does

The L3 grade comes from a couple telling one story together, so their two accounts are not independent of each other. The catalogues show the story in print by 1980. What happened to the Reis couple on the highway is not resolved here.
