Manarov's Mir tape
Aboard the Mir station in 1991 cosmonaut Musa Manarov filmed an arriving spacecraft and caught a rotating object that seemed to come away from it. Moscow television showed the tape the next evening. This is the record of what was filmed and said, not a verdict on what the object was.
◆ THE SHORT VERSION
- Manarov's Mir tape is a reported UAP case in Earth orbit, 20 May 1991.
- Filming a spacecraft as it docked with Mir, cosmonaut Musa Manarov caught a rotating object of changing brightness that appeared to separate from the arriving ship; the telling holds nothing had broken away and no alarms sounded.
- Moscow's Vremya newscast showed the tape the next evening, 21 May 1991, describing a phosphorescent object of quite a considerable size hovering near the station.
- That newscast also reported Manarov's doubts: he had seen the thing come off the craft during docking, and the ordinary reading of a shed fragment comes from the man holding the camera.
- A second telling, unnamed and undated in the archive, has a cosmonaut describing a greenish object shimmering like a Christmas ball over Newfoundland; the public record puts that account with Gennady Strekalov and Gennady Manakov on 28 September 1990, a different crew.
- For this case Fractured Realities holds 1 distinct source, 2 corroborating primary documents and 2 distinct claimants on its resolved list.
- The archive grades it L4 · DOC-CORROBORATED — the testimony is corroborated by primary government documents, the top of our scale.
Counts are resolved totals of what sources say, computed 2026-10-03; the reported details above are claims in the record, not findings. A record of reports, not a verdict on what happened.
