In August 1972, during a wave of unusual sightings on South Africa's Natal coast, several witnesses reported encountering a tall figure with a glowing, box-shaped head. Accounts describe fire in its eyes, a light on its chest and heat radiating from it as it swayed, seemingly to hold its watchers' attention, before shooting into the sky. Some who saw it reported headaches and leg pain afterwards. The case is little known outside collections of regional reports.

What is on the record

The case is resolved from a single video on a single channel, and it names five witnesses in the archive's record — Elias Kosa, Ingrid Hansen, Thelma Hansen, Doris Muthua and Joyce Muthua — describing the same figure during the wave. There is no physical evidence and no official documentation in the public record; what supports the case is the number of independent witnesses rather than any recovered trace. The descriptions are vivid and consistent across accounts, and the case has not been resolved to a conventional explanation.

Why it sits where it does

The Natal wave grades L3 in this archive, placed by five independent claimants reporting one connected series of encounters, at testimony grade. It is an obscure case, and its standing rests on the breadth of testimony rather than any documentation. What the record holds is that several people in Natal reported the same strange figure in 1972. What they saw is not resolved here.
