Jamming and Three Lights near Shaddadi (2023)

Just after midnight GMT on 21 February 2023 an F-15E crew over north-eastern Syria had its radar jammed for three minutes, and a minute later logged three possible UAP near Shaddadi, two of them glowing white on infrared with no radar return. The report itself blames the jamming on a Turkish jammer and logs a later object as a possible balloon. This is the record of what the crew reported, not a verdict on what was in the sky.

◆ THE SHORT VERSION

  • Jamming and Three Lights near Shaddadi (2023) is a reported UAP case in Near Shaddadi (al-Shaddadi), Hasakah Governorate, north-eastern Syria, Syria, 21 February 2023, 0021–0135Z.
  • An F-15E crew near Shaddadi logged three possible UAP one minute after its radar was jammed, two of them white and significant on infrared with no radar return.
  • The report's own working theory blames the three minutes of jamming on a Turkish X-band jammer on or across the Syria–Turkey border.
  • An hour later the crew logged a fourth object at FL210 as a possible balloon.
  • Weapons system video was made of both sightings but has not been released.
  • For this case Fractured Realities holds 1 distinct source, 1 corroborating primary document and 1 claimant on its resolved list.
  • The archive grades it L4 · OFFICIAL RECORD — a released government record names who saw it, the top of our scale, though no independent testimony sits beside that record.

Counts are resolved totals of what sources say, computed 2026-10-03; the reported details above are claims in the record, not findings. A record of reports, not a verdict on what happened.

For three minutes, from 0021Z to 0024Z, the F-15E's APG-82 radar was jammed at 27,000 feet north of Shaddadi. At 0025Z the crew was still cruising in its combat air patrol when it observed "3X POSS UAP" near the town at FL240. "No radar returns received from UAP," the report says. "2 white objects IR significant." Nobody aboard suffered any health effect. An hour later, at 0135Z, the crew logged one more object at FL210 and entered it as a possible balloon. Weapons system video was made of both sightings.

What is on the record

The source is a US Air Force mission report, DOW-UAP-D19, filed by the 389th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron. A two-ship of F-15Es had flown from Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan for Operation Inherent Resolve. US Central Command declassified the report on 8 October 2025 and the Department of War published it on 8 May 2026 in its first PURSUE release. Coordinates, callsigns and names are withheld. The weapons system video has not been released.

The report gives its own account of the jamming: "Our working theory is that it is an aera of effect Turkish X-band jammer on or across the SYR/TUR border into Turkey." It was logged separately as interference report 340377 and did not change the mission. The report never links the jamming to the objects seen a minute later. Placing them on one page is the archive's choice, because they come from the same aircraft over the same town.

The official index summary mentions only the possible balloon and gives its height as 2,100 feet. The report says FL210, which is about 21,000 feet.

Why it sits where it does

L4 · OFFICIAL RECORD — a released government record names who saw it. The observers are an F-15E crew of the 389th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron, identified by unit with every name withheld. No independent testimony sits beside the report in the archive, and the tier measures sourcing rather than truth. The jamming has a working explanation in the record and one object was logged as a possible balloon. What the other three were is not resolved here.
