Two Cold Contacts over the Gulf (2023)

On 24 October 2023 a US Air Force crew on a twenty-hour surveillance flight over the Gulf logged two UAP forty minutes apart, estimated at 320 and 440 mph. The first showed cold on thermal. The crew judged both solid and benign with no intelligent control. This is the record of what the crew reported and filmed, not a verdict on what was in the sky.

◆ THE SHORT VERSION

  • Two Cold Contacts over the Gulf (2023) is a reported UAP case in Central Persian Gulf (grid 39R XK), north-west of the UAE, towards the Iranian coast, 24 October 2023, 0241Z and 0322Z.
  • A US Air Force surveillance crew over the Gulf logged two UAP forty minutes apart, estimated at 320 and 440 mph.
  • The report says the first showed cold on thermal, and the crew judged both solid and benign with no intelligent control.
  • Iranian air defence had radioed the aircraft earlier that night to keep a safe distance from the border.
  • Two released infrared clips show the sensor following an area of contrast, according to AARO, which does not say which clip matches which sighting.
  • For this case Fractured Realities holds 3 distinct sources, 3 corroborating primary documents and 1 claimant on its resolved list.
  • The archive grades it L4 · OFFICIAL RECORD — a released government record names who saw it, the top of our scale, though no independent testimony sits beside that record.

Counts are resolved totals of what sources say, computed 2026-10-03; the reported details above are claims in the record, not findings. A record of reports, not a verdict on what happened.

At 0241Z the crew logged one UAP over the central Gulf. The report's data block calls it solid with no manoeuvring and no effect on the crew. Its thermal signature "showed cold". Its estimated speed was 320 mph. At 0322Z came a second at an estimated 440 mph. It too was solid and did not manoeuvre. For both the crew answered the form's question on intelligent control with a flat "no" and assessed the object as "benign". Size, shape and colour are entered as unknown. At 0145Z that night Iranian air defence had called the aircraft on the guard frequency: "Maintain safe distance from border." The crew replied that it was a coalition aircraft on routine operations in international airspace.

What is on the record

The source is a US Air Force mission report, DOW-UAP-D23, filed by the 50th Attack Squadron during Operation Spartan Shield. The aircraft took off from Al Dhafra in the United Arab Emirates, flew an imagery mission for US Naval Forces Central Command and landed after 20 hours and 43 minutes. US Central Command declassified the report on 12 September 2025. The Department of War released it on 8 May 2026 with two infrared clips, DOW-UAP-PR026 and PR027, titled "Unresolved UAP Report, United Arab Emirates, October 2023".

AARO says each clip shows the sensor following an "area of contrast". In the 43-second PR026 it sits in the top-left quarter until the sensor stops tracking it. In the five-minute PR027 the sensor zooms in on one and repeatedly loses and reacquires it. AARO does not say which clip belongs to which sighting.

The release's label points to the launch base. The report's grid references put both objects over open water in the central Gulf, north-west of the Emirates and towards the Iranian coast. Its location fields for them do not fully agree. Finer coordinates are withheld.

Why it sits where it does

L4 · OFFICIAL RECORD — a released government record names who saw it. The observers are a crew of the 50th Attack Squadron, named by unit with the individuals withheld. No independent testimony sits beside the report in the archive, and the tier measures sourcing rather than truth. What the crew tracked over the Gulf is not resolved here.
