The Sleman Rice Circle
2011 · Rejosari, Berbah, Sleman · Yogyakarta · Indonesia

WHAT IT IS
A 70 m flower of rings pressed into a rice paddy overnight. It drew crowds in their thousands, a police investigation and two national science agencies.
THE ALIEN READING
Residents told the Associated Press it could not be human work, and a local UFO group backed a non-human origin as crowds poured in.
WHAT THE RECORD SAYS
The space agency LAPAN found stake holes at the centre and the marks of boards: a rope-and-stake compass. Its researcher Thomas Djamaluddin called it 'human intervention, not aliens'. The nuclear agency BATAN measured no radiation. Police interviewed farmers but no maker was found.
WHERE IT STANDS
Disputed. No maker has claimed it. Sceptics say people made it; proponents point to what they say people could not do.
